THE MEN’S TEAM

The Men of the church have reorganized their group and are now under a new name: “The Men’s Team”. Along with a new name will be a new format, new gathering time and a new menu.

Because of the new changes, the Men’s Sunday Dinner for the month of September was canceled. Preparation and planning is now underway for the starting of the “Men’s Team” Saturday morning breakfast the third Saturday of October. The men will gather at 8:30 in the morning for a continental style breakfast, prayer time and inspirational talks given by various men of the group.

The Men’s Team is making the new changes in order to serve the men of the church at a better meeting time and with an intentional approach of meeting the spiritual needs of the men of the congregation.

All men of the church are invited to attend the new “Men’s Team” morning breakfast on Saturday morning, October 18th at 8:30 a.m. Come for a time of casual gathering, a light breakfast and prayer and inspiration.

The Men’s planning team has been in prayerful agreement for the past month to have God lead in His way to make the new men’s group a meaningful and supportive team of the Montesano Church of God. Come and help make it a success!

We will be looking for all Men on Saturday morning, October 18th at 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.

See you there!

SCHAWANA CHURCH PROJECT

By Pat Schmidt
Pastor Alfredo and Tina Gutierrez had a vision from God. They were to start a church in Schawana, Washington and grow it in order to win people to Christ. They did so. They built their church until they now crowd over 150 people into a 20’ by 70’ building. They developed a large Awana program for children. They started a college level Bible School so that teachers and church leaders could be developed. They network with other churches to send over $700 each month to help support needful Mexican pastors. They planted and continue to support a church in a nearby community. They accomplished all of this as well as much more.

Now they are in need of $100,000 in order to purchase a larger building. Through their hard work and sacrifice they have $93,000. Knowing their determination to win their corner of the world to Christ, we set out to help them reach their goal. We designated the month of September to accomplish this. Mike Casberg built a beautiful model church for our children to place their money during Sunday morning service. The youth and adults placed theirs in the offering along with their regular tithes and offerings.

On September 28 we held a Mexican fiesta to complete our special project. Phyllis Bowe and Laura Copeland handled the decorations, which were very colorful and included a cabana built over the food. Patsy Aubuchon took charge of the kitchen with the help of Toni Aubuchon, Ruth Valentine, Laura Copeland and Phyllis Bowe. There was a wide variety of very delicious food. Everyone helped clean up. The leftover food was transported to the Union Gospel Mission in Aberdeen to be enjoyed by the patrons there.

I would like to express my appreciation to all those who helped make this mission project such a success. From the children, who were faithful to bring their money each Sunday and were so eager to help collect dinner donations on the day of our fiesta, to our Missions Committee and other adults, who were so willing to share their time and talents with the decorations and in the kitchen, you have my deepest thanks.

The members of the community of believers known as the Montesano Church of God are the most loving and generous people it has ever been my pleasure to be a part of. The final figure of our Schawana Church Project is $1668! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MONTESANO CHURCH OF GOD!!!

Missions Committee members include: Pat Schmidt, Patsy Aubuchon, Ruth Valentine, Pearl Crass, Laura Copeland, Diana Granstrom, and Jerry Phillips

"I'm Free" The Salvation Story

BELIEF IS ALL YOU NEED

(Adapted from Some Folks Feel the Rain.. Others Just Get Wet James W. Moore, Dimensions)
A man was lost while driving through the country. As he tried to read a map, he accidentally drove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn’t injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud. So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

“Warwick can get you out of that ditch,” said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing in a field. The man looked at the haggardly mule and looked at the farmer who just stood there repeating, “Yep, old Warwick can do the job.” The man figured he had nothing to lose. The two men and Warwick made their way back to the ditch.

The farmer hitched the mule to the car. With a snap of the reins he shouted, “Pull, Fred! Pull, Jack! Pull, Ted! Pull, Warwick!” And the mule pulled the car from the ditch with very little effort.

The man was amazed. He thanked the farmer, patted the mule and asked, “Why did you call out all those other names before you called Warwick?”

The farmer grinned and said, “Old Warwick is just about blind. As long as he believes he’s part of a team, he doesn’t mind pulling.”

Are you a part of the team? What will you help pull?

PRAYER HOUR EVERY WEDNESDAY

Do you ever wish you were closer to God? Do you sometimes feel a twinge of guilt for neglecting prayer? Do you envy the people who seem to have it all together? Do you long for peace and stillness of heart?

Many people today think they cannot pray. They view praying as a special gift of church activists, the elderly or saints. If you are among these people, or if you just need encouragement for your ongoing prayer journey, take heart.

Every Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. there will be a prayer hour in the Fireside Room. Bring your prayer concerns and join other prayer warriors for an hour of prayer each and every Wednesday. Prayer isn’t for specialists; prayer is for you and for me.

IT IS SIMPLE TO PACK A SHOE BOX!

Everyone loves to receive gifts. During the Christmas season, we celebrate the arrival of God's Son, Jesus. He is the greatest gift of all. This year millions of children will experience Christmas joy when they receive gift-filled shoe boxes and hear the Gospel through Christian literature and follow-up discipleship programs. Our church can play a crucial role in touching young lives, first by preparing shoe box gifts, and then praying for the boys and girls who will receive them.

PACK A GIFT: Use an empty shoe box. It can be wrapped in Christmas paper, painted or left plain. Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl. The child's age category:2 - 4, 5 - 9 or 10 - 14 . Mark your box by taping the label on the lid. Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will make a child happy. Gift suggestions may include pens, pencils, paper tablets, sharpener, solar calculators, color books, small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, yo-yos, toys that light up or make a noise (with extra batteries), slinky and some hard candy. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE: war items, liquid soaps or lotions, or breakable items.

GIVE: Include your $7.00 donation to cover the cost of shipping by placing it in the donation envelope or just place the donation in the shoe box. If you prepare more than one shoe box, please make one combined donation. Shoe boxes will be collected the month of October.

PRAY: Pray for the child receiving you shoe box. God is at work in the lives of the children and their families.

In 2007, Samaritan's Purse collected more than 7.6 million shoe box gifts for poor, sick, and suffering children. Our church sent 66 boxes to these children. Join us as we share God's love by packing a shoe box or two, and giving a gift donation to cover costs of shipping around the world. More information may be found at the "Welcome Desk" in the church foyer.

May God richly bless you for your gifts of love!

REFUELING THE TANK

By Courtney Rice
Recently someone was telling me that they think of going to church as “refueling their religious tank.” We go and fill up once a week on Sunday and as the week goes by we begin to get low on fuel and energy. We have to keep coming back regularly (more than once a week) in order to keep God and our relationship with Him in perspective. Think of it as a car; when the fuel tank begins to get low you better go fill up your car because you won’t be able to travel anywhere without the energy that makes the car go. God is the fuel that energizes us. We have to be filled with his love and grace in order to go anywhere because life without him isn’t worth living.

Being a Christian isn’t easy, just like gas these days isn’t cheap. We have to work at it everyday to let God’s love shine through us. I challenge you to try and spend at least 10 minutes a day with God. Make the time for Him because He is the source that keeps us going, without Him we break down on the highway.

SPIRITUAL LIFE NEWS

Complete Consecration

Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself. Mark 8:34

"Today Christ is calling Christians to cleansing – to dedication – to consecration – to full surrender. If you are a Christian and have been suffering defeat or have been living outside the will of God, I beg you to surrender every area of your life to Christ.

Only surrendered Christians will make an impact on our world. The world does not need any more lukewarm Christians, or lazy Christians, or quarrelsome Christians, or doubting Christians, or prideful Christians. The Bible says, "a double minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8, KJV). What keeps you from a full surrender of your life to the King of kings and the Lord of lords?

Your response will make the difference between success and failure in your spiritual life. It will make the difference between your needing help and being able to help others. It will revolutionize your habits, your prayer life, your Bible reading, your giving, your testimony, and your church relationship. This is the Christians hour of decision!"

These words of wisdom are from "Hope for Each Day" by Billy Graham.

We ask you join us in our prayer focus for this month which is for the Annual Church Business Meeting. May God be glorified in our response to the leaders planning for the coming year to the edification of our church.

Your Spiritual Life Committee,

Doris Parnel
Sandy Casberg
Annette Hollingworth
